7 May 2012: We left Dolphin Camping in the north and drove towards the east around the coast stopping along the way at places of interest. Kassiopi is a beautiful little village, in very close proximity to Albania and we tried to photograph the distant mountains knowing that in not more than a month we would be driving along them in a northerly direction.
A short distance on in Kalami we found the house that used to be the Durrell family home, where Gerald Durrell wrote “My Family and Other Animals” which will mean more to our Jersey family.
We continued on into Corfu Town and explored the Old Fortress on the peninsular dating from the 14th century before driving south of the town to Kanoni from where there is a good view of the pretty Pontikonissi and Vlakerani Islets right next to the airport. Pontikonissi is said to be the boat of Odysseus turned into stone by the wrathful Poseidon.
